Bright and early (6:00), we left this morning for Louis Trichardt. This is a small town in the mountains about four hours away.
On the way, we say a lot of beautiful scenery,
and also were stopped by cops for speeding. (I wasn't driving!!)
We also passed through another city that looked very modern.
At Loius Trichardt, we did a distance presentation where we talked about the Mukhanyo program. After the presentation, 10 people signed up to do distance courses and so another group is formed!!
This is a flower that was at the church. Mom, do you know what kind it is?!?? The next picture is the same plant.
Another beautiful flower
The church where we went. It was a very nice and modern church. We had the presentation in one of the classrooms and we froze (even though it was about 18 degrees outside) No one here has central heating and since the buildings are made up of brick, they stay fairly cool.
Louis Trichardt on google maps. We crossed over the Tropic of Capricorn and now I also can say that I have been in three out of nine provinces in South Africa
After we finished the distance presentation, we walked across the road to a seafood restuarant. It was a really neat place and had lots of good choices.
The prices were really cheap too - for "World Famous Feesh and Chips", you would pay about $4.00
Jessica, I put this picture on for you - you would've picked this dish I think. It had about four different types of seafood. It looks expensive 164.90 Rand, but that is only about $17.00 Canadian. I would say in Canada that is probably a $25-$30 dish. One of the people that I was with ordered this dish and I tried calamari - it actually wasn't that bad.
Once lunch was done, we then drove for about 15 minutes to a maximum security prison.
One of the inmates at the prison is taking some Mukhanyo courses through the distance program. (ie like distance education). We went to visit him and see how he was doing. He told us history and how he came to prison. Then he also explained to us how he became a Christian and what this meant to him being in prison. It was amazing to listen to his story and see how he was content to be in prison because that was where God had placed him.
It was now 4:00 and so we started heading home. Once again, we saw some very beautiful land forms.
I'm trying to get nice pictures of the mountains, but it isn't working too well. They are made up of red rock, so they don't look at all like our Rocky Mountains
Besides seeing modern cities, we also say some very poor housing. I did some housing worse than these, but I could not get a good picture.
